With the approaching retirement of Terry Murphy, Landscape Ontario is looking to fill the position of professional and human resource development manager (PHRDM).

The PHRDM will execute the human resource development, labour, safety, education and training plans of the association which are divided into two broad areas: 1) professional development, and 2) long term labour capacity development.

Professional development responsibilities include: managing a team responsible for all seminars, conferences, and winter workshops, and training and education programs with the specific goal of improving the business, technical and safety competencies of the horticultural industry. The successful candidate will develop and maintain templates and resources that assist members with human resource issues, including recruitment, retention, management and safety, and manage the delivery of all industry certification programs, including WSIB, PTP, CLP, CHT, CLD, CIT, etc.

Long term labour capacity development includes creating partnerships of benefit with all levels of the education system, including high school, post secondary and elementary schools, and coordinating on-going careers in horticulture promotion in concert with industry and education partners. This may include the development of communication materials and coordination of a network of high school consultants from industry who can participate at high school job fairs, career fairs, etc.

The PHRDM also acts a resource to all apprenticeship programs in the province, including assisting with coordination and delivery if appropriate.
