When is a dues increase not a dues increase?

Hi Everyone,

Our year end is August 31st. We are currently preparing to send out the dues invoice. It is always awkward to send out membership invoices. It feels like charging a family member.

Thank you for supporting your association family and each other in our common mission to grow a prosperous, professional, recognized, valued, respected and contribution-oriented industry.

This year your dues will not go up, even though you will notice an extra $20 tagged on.

Let me explain:

We were approached by an insurance company offering legal insurance. The program offers you unlimited calls to legal advice, available seven days a week, 8 a.m. to midnight local time, 24/7 in emergencies. You will receive general advice on ANY legal question pertaining to business operations.

The best part is the cost. The service is $20 per member, but only if all members participate.

The proposal seemed too good to be true. It was reviewed by our Insurance Committee, Board of Directors and our lawyer Robert Kennaley. All were impressed. We have decided to try it out. This fee may be removed in the future depending on the success of the program. Please contact me if you have questions or concerns.

The $20 will be added as a separate line item at the bottom of the invoice. It will be titled 'Legal Advice Program.'

We are continually searching for programs that will benefit our membership family.

I hope you are having a great year.
